Here at WestFor we like to take interested individuals or groups on forestry tours in our working forests in Western NS. This past month our GM took a group of private woodlot owners and local politicians that were interested in learning more about crown land ecological forestry practices out into the woods. They visited a selection harvest and a shelterwood treatment in Queens county that was done by local Contractors RC Weare and Eisner’s Forestry. This was then followed by visits to Freeman’s Lumber and Brooklyn Energy.
We also had one of our field staffers take an individual from the HRM who was interested in forestry out and show her how to conduct a post harvest inspection. She was able to see lots of variable retentions between 10% and 30% as well as quite a few shelterwoods.
If you are interested in a tour of our operations, either as a group or one on one, please email communications@westfor.org to set it up!
